I updated my site last night with the new genesis update, and now my email subscription bar on top of my site under my social media icons is not showing up.

Is the email subscription still there in Appearance > Widgets? If so, what are you using to display it—plugin, text widget, etc?

It looks as if it might have been a widget, I had someone do the site for me. So I had no clue. How Would I recover the original code for it, to go in the widget area?

The widget is likely now in the Inactive Widgets section. You can drag and drop it back into the Header Right widget area.

Nope, no where to be found. That's so strange.

Unless you have a backup of the site, there's not much you can do to find the original code/widget used. But you can use the eNews Extended plugin to create a signup form that links to MailChimp or AWeber. It's designed to work with your Genesis theme.
