Hello All,
A while back I asked about how to do an an intranet based on Genesis. re: https://www.studiopress.community/topic/discussion-on-how-to-handle-nav-menus-permissions-for-an-intranet/
Development went through and the results are fantastic. No need for defined menus in specific spots per normal WP or Genesis land. The result is great and basically was designed around a custom walker with ldap integration. They are generated and delivered via the walker and cached into to transients per user to save server load. There's a CPT for each possible custom item, and the custom walker is coded such that it delivers it to the menu code as needed. Because of the ldap integration, a user only sees what they need.
Badges are supported, such that you can see if an item is a download or counts. I hope screen shots can show this, because its so natural due to iPhone / et al that icons (hard in a walker, but not that hard) is so intuitive to users, they can know instantly based on the menus that action must be taken or they will have to download something. A perfect example is animal impoundments. The icon shows how many are impounded right now. Other examples are excel or PDF from SharePoint as source, the walker is coded to show a down arrow to indicate this is a download. We plan to extend the badge ability beyond this to say, number of tasks you have waiting, etc.
Basically this has allowed the org to on board someone without needing to know where in windows to go to to launch every application, or know shortcuts. They can go to the intranet and launch whatever they need. The techy among you will wonder how we did that, it is a custom schema applied to windows such that when they hit a link with custom schema it will auto launch the application. It is actually pretty awesome.
Short Codes Deliver them via Widgets. Again, I have to say the results are fantastic!

FA is the preference, as there's so many and they keep adding them, but it can be a custom one. WP auto generates the Icon, and based on a set of ACF options you can include background circle / colour or not. The colours are based on the the TRC logo, so blue, then red, then green (Org, Role, User).
There's a myriad of options when you set up what we call 'Intranet Item' - and the admins can pick and chose what to do (FA, or Custom, Background or Not, Tech Owner and Business owner of Item - this allows users to email questions about app / item to domain experts right from intranet).
It also supports things like auto message on Wed (which is Patch Tuesday for Microsoft) to leave computers on to receive patches from WSUS (or whatever it is called now).
There's a whole heap of features I can't really document, but I can say Genesis was and is a HUGE part in all this and it probably couldn't have happened without it.
