Help, the Genesis Extender Plugin is crashing in WordPress 4.4 with News Pro Theme

Fatal error: Can't use function return value in write context in /home/martiale/public_html/wp-content/plugins/genesis-extender/lib/update/genesis-extender-update.php on line 73

Any clues why?

It's not a Studio Press product. It's probably needing to update now that 4.4 released.
