Full width photo above content-sidebar pages?

I would like to add a full-width photo above the content-sidebar layout for my pages. Each page will have a different photo, and won't need to be changed often. One photo per page, so no need for a slider. The photo will appear as part of the header, but be different for different pages.

This is just for specific (albeit the majority of our) pages. Not necessary for posts, or archived posts page layouts. And the home page has it's own design so it's not necessary there either.

How do I go about doing this? I haven't seen this as a layout option for pages? Any pointers in the right direction appreciated.

The link below is a link to our current live non-Wordpress website, but it gives you an idea of what we're looking for. We are using a customized Metro for our new website, but not easily shared right now.

It's pretty difficult to work in the blind without seeing what you've already done using the Metro theme. When you have it at a point where you can share it, please provide a link.

The only thing I don't currently have working is how to get the alt text for the image working. For some reason when inserting the photo with the above custom field method it doesn't show. Something for another post. But the tutorial was definitely helpful in getting the photo up there.
