MemberI am getting this message in the dashboard of my admin area. What can I do about it and what does it mean?
ERROR: The theme directory "genesis" does not exist.

MemberHave you installed the Genesis framework? Even though the child theme will be your active theme, the framework has to be installed first.

MemberERROR: The theme directory "genesis" does not exist.
That is the error. Interesting thing is that I am getting that error for every single theme I install. Must be a glitch in my installation.
I deleted the themes and then tried to reinstall but the error still shows up. It's not messing anything up but I'm just curious to what impact it might be having that I am not aware of and why it's happening.
Thank you for getting back to me.

MemberTo clarify, are you installing the Genesis framework zip file before you upload your child theme?
Who is your host?

MemberYes, I installed the zip from a download here and upload to wordpress.
I am only running the framework. I am using a vps server from godaddy but its unmanaged. I am in control of the vps via cpanel.December 5, 2013 at 8:41 am #77182nutsandbolts
MemberThat's very strange... I wonder if the child themes are being corrupted on upload somehow.

MemberWhen I try to delete a theme from wordpress I get sent to a page that says "cheatin ugh"
I'm also using the premise plugin. Not sure if that is impacting it.

MemberThanks everyone,
I went into my cPanel and ran repair database.
Then I went into the the folder that houses my wordpress site on my computer and manually removed themes, I also removed un needed plugins, Then I ftp'd everything to the site. Before I did all this I made several backups of the database and files.
Now it is fixed.
Thanks for all your help.

MemberHmm, it's hard to offer much help since you're building locally. When you look at the front end of the site, is it displaying Genesis?

MemberI understand that, but you stated above that the Genesis framework has been installed and activated. If the framework is active, your homepage should look something like this: http://www.genesisframework.com/

MemberI have my domain
I will be transferring my wordpress.com blog and content over after I set up my .org
Should I not have done it local?
Yes Front end of the site shows Genesis as my theme. With no colours or customs just grey

MemberIt's hard to say what's causing the error, but it seems something didn't gel correctly when you installed WP or the framework.
I would set up your hosting, then go ahead and install WP on your domain and try installing it there. You can always import your content from wp.com once the child theme is activated on the live site.
