I have finally switched to a 2 column template as I need a way of having a video directory I am working on highlighted on the front page. The problem is when I access my site on mobile I have to scroll all the way down to the bottom to see the content of that widget.

How do I make it appear on top of the page when viewing on mobile?

In typical two-column setup, with the content on the left and the sidebar on the right, the content has a float: left in it's css and the sidebar is a float:right. Reverse the floats in your media query and the side bar will show first.
