I really wanted to add a table of contents to some of my posts because many of them are 3,000 words, etc.

A friend told me about the plugin "Table of Contents Plus"

It looks nice and it doesn't seem to slow my site down.

However, when I uncheck the auto add option and insert the shortcode [toc] it completely messes up the post.

It only displays the title of my post and everything underneath is blank.

    1. Does this mean the plugin won't work with Genesis framework?
    2. Is there a better option for adding a nice table of contents?

What did the plugin developer have to say?

You could try another T.O.C plugin and see if that works.

    The developer is MIA.

It hasn't been updated in over a year and no developer associated with the plugin answers questions in the plugin forum.

Should be all I need to just dump it but I personally know many people who use it the way I described. However, they aren't users of Genesis themes.

I don't know of any that work well with Genesis themes without slowing the site down.

It's very difficult for themes to support tens of thousands of plugins because the plugins may not be fully compatible with all themes in which case you need to troubleshoot and add/modify CSS to get it working correctly.

    Or

Find a new plugin which works out of the box with your theme.
