    I would like to change the Home Page 3 widget area so that it always displays two widgets side by side instead of the layout changing according to how many widgets total are in the Home Page 3 widget area. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

    Open front-page.php an remove the flexible-widgets class from the code at line 117. You'll have to add your own styles to style.css to make the widgets display side by side.
