As with previous questions, I'm not sure if I'm describing my objectives well, much less what I've tried. The goal is to relaunch two websites with better integration - including the blog on one of the sites to take advantage of it's longer history and greater traffic. I'll call that site the target, and the other is the source.
I installed Genesis Custom Headers, added a template for the blog page - on the target - that removes the genesis_header so that only the custom header image shows (Genesis Custom Headers doesn't do that by default). And changed the menu item on the source to be a custom link pointing to the target blog page. [The custom header image is a combination of images from both sites to reflect cross branding.] So far so good.
The problem is that the individual posts on the target site are still showing with the original header image.
What I'd like is a way to set different Custom Header Images for pages and posts without editing each page and post individually.
Options as I see them:
- Find a plugin that can set up custom headers for posts or pages (or perhaps some other part of the taxonomy - ideally not visible). I haven't found one so far.
- Use Genesis Simple Hooks with a PHP statement before the header that uses is_single($post='') to change the image to the custom image. I don't know how to do that - which filter should be changed.
- Write my own plugin or modify Genesis Custom Header. Scary.
- Change custom header for every existing post (and new ones).
- Change regular header to the existing custom header, make the existing regular header a custom header, change all pages to use the custom header so the posts can use the regular header.
Am I missing something obvious?

For now (re-launch) I've ended up with something that seems acceptable until I can find some time to dig in deeper.
- Default header is the combined header image that serves the purpose of integrated branding. The image is clickable, which is a little confusing because it combines both sites but only links to the site the pages are hosted on
- Edited various Genesis page templates to unhook the standard header. Otherwise two header images are diplayed
- Genesis Custom Header used to show the non combined header image for the pages that aren't integrated. These images aren't clickable - acceptable because they aren't on the current Prose implementation
After relaunching, I'll be investigating how to make the custom header images clickable, and also ideally if there is a way to make the combined image linked to both sites.
