    Hi All,

I am very new to WP and have just purchased genesis to begin development. For last few days, I used a free theme JustWrite (doesn't use Genesis) only to play around with WP. Now I am contemplating to move to a genesis child theme, since updates to JustWrite are released and I'm sure I'll lose my customization (although I don't know what all I will lose, but don't want to risk it).

I have shortlisted TechMagazine from WPStuffs as the child theme as it very much suits my design requirements, out of box. However, I see the last github post by author was in Sept 2014, and the theme is at version v0.1 even after 1+ years of existence. That worries me, the developer seems to have stopped working on it, he's not even responding to my queries via email for last 2 days.

    So, my questions being:
    1. Does it matter if the theme developer has abandoned the child theme?
    2. Would any security issues arise with a child theme in future? Can I resolve them w/o support from the theme developer?
    3. I know we can edit the theme code, does it mean I can COMPLETELY revamp it? Can i read each and every line of that code?

Please help me, I don't have much coding background and want to reduce troubles moving between themes. Thank you very much for your help!

Just to add, I read from this post in the forum (http://www.studiopress.community/topic/child-themes-and-updates/) that child themes need not necessarily be updated. And that we can copy out custom code and update the child theme if ever an update comes. That info does help.

But regarding my question of any security issue or access to entire code, I would appreciate if someone can throw some light.

    Thanks!
