Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask or address this or it has been asked already. I tried searching.
I may be being a bit dense here, but with the site change I cannot seem to find where to purchase Community Themes?
I can see some in the showcase, but on the old site we could purchase by using shop for themes. Do we need to go to each developer site now?
Cheers!
September 24, 2013 at 9:45 am #63976[email protected]ParticipantI am also looking for Community Themes. Also, what about updates to the Community Themes? Are the Community Theme files in our download area the latest versions?
September 25, 2013 at 12:20 am #64052SummerMemberIt looks like the Community Themes are now called 3rd Party Themes, and are listed alongside the StudioPress themes.
See: http://my.studiopress.com/themes/ -- the first theme is (in)Spyr, and it has a blue "Third Party" flag on it.
And yes, I'm still poking around to see where they moved some other stuff I used to reference 🙂

Slice of SciFi | Writers, After DarkSeptember 25, 2013 at 12:28 am #64053coralseaitMemberYeah, I noticed that. Seems some of them are, but for example I didn't see Legacy. Perhaps we'll get some clarification. I'm really liking the new site, just have to dig some more!
September 25, 2013 at 12:38 am #64056SummerMemberI also noticed under My Account that they don't separate the active themes from the discontinued themes anymore, so if you'd purchased Legacy through SP, that should still show up in your account.
If not, it looks like it's still available at Wes' Appfinite, but now I'm curious what other themes may be retired soon.

Slice of SciFi | Writers, After DarkSeptember 25, 2013 at 12:42 am #64057coralseaitMemberIndeed, I already owned Optimal and was looking to pick up Legacy for a project and that's what prompted my initial question - I guess we'll have to go to the individual dev's sites; I did like the convenience of the market place as far as browsing for themes.
September 25, 2013 at 5:40 am #64063wp guyMemberNo response to this issue? I don't see a lot of community themes anymore - Cre8tive Burst, Adordable, Glitter and Lace, etc...
September 25, 2013 at 10:48 am #64091Susan NelsonParticipantThe Community theme Marketplace has been closed, so you'll have to go to the developer websites to purchase the ones that aren't listed anymore. Also check http://bylt.me.
Here's a tweet about it from Brian Gardner the other day:
@JiveDig We've actually closed the marketplace with the exception of a few hand picked themes we're keeping on.

September 25, 2013 at 1:21 pm #64134SummerMemberHuh, I didn't know that.
Now why not put that in a blog post on Studio Press, or send out an email about through the mailing list? It's not that big a deal, I've been buying themes directly from ZigZag and Appfinite after I got a chance to play with the ones they had made available here (I just noticed that Megalithe isn't available here anymore), and I've bought directly from Themedy as well.
It would just be nice to know that now we must go to other Genesis child theme shops in order to expand our selections 🙂
Having a list of Studio Press "Recommended Theme Shops" might be nice too... something that takes into account load speed, security and features and have in an at-a-glance format, perhaps. Uh-oh... my own personal listmania is starting to kick in... must... resist...

Slice of SciFi | Writers, After DarkSeptember 25, 2013 at 1:42 pm #64137[email protected]ParticipantSo I take it that any Community Themes purchased in the past available via the download section here will not be updated? Wish I'd have known that before I purchased them.
September 25, 2013 at 1:49 pm #64139Susan NelsonParticipantWell, I wouldn't necessarily say that. The Community themes you've purchased should still be in your download list whether or not they're still for sale here at StudioPress. And I would hope the developers will send the updated zip files to SP when they are released so everyone can have the latest version. I had a theme for sale in the Community Marketplace and when I released a new version, I emailed it to SP and they added it to the downloads here.
September 25, 2013 at 2:19 pm #64147wp guyMemberA head's up for some better form of communication would have been since since I send clients to the community site to shop for themes, along with the StudioPress main page. I don't know if it's just me, but my male clients would always choose a theme from Studiopress while my female clients would always choose a theme from community developers.
September 25, 2013 at 4:33 pm #64174devParticipantWe also had a link on our site to the Community Theme page. I'm sorry to see the page eliminated.
Maybe someone here has a page with links to the major (and minor) Genesis vendors that they will share?
There is a list here: http://darrylbueckert.ca/ but I don't know how current it is.

Slice of SciFi | Writers, After DarkSeptember 25, 2013 at 6:11 pm #64202devParticipantI think SP is making a mistake in closing their community theme store. A framework needs a collection of child themes as part of its eco-system. One of the reasons we standardized on Gen was the large number of themes available (we came over from the Elegant platform.)
Eventually there will be someone who will open a Gen theme store and invite the developers in and take a reasonable cut. It would have been smarter of SP to keep the store then let it go out of house to someone else.
Michael Corleone: My father taught me many things here. He taught me in this room. He taught me; 'keep your friends close, but your enemies closer'.
I wonder if some of the more popular developers who had offerings on the community store are unhappy enough to maybe quit developing for the Gen platform and maybe go somewhere else... Pagelines, Woo, Thesis, etc.? I hope not. Many web design firms have hitched their wagon to the Genesis 'star'... and if it flames out ... in the short term... it will take them (and us) down with it!
September 25, 2013 at 6:31 pm #64207coralseaitMemberWhilst I'm new to the community and Genesis I'll say I'm very happy with how much value I derive out of the Framework and all of the themes I purchased in the package. My general impression is that Studiopress has been flat out on releasing 2.0 and back updating themes so some of the community attention may have slipped.
I'm going to keep the faith and keep watching this space so to speak. Perhaps there's things in the works we don't know about or this is a change for good; I don't know.
I do feel for the developers who were listed and no longer; I sure wouldn't have found Wes' / Appfinite's Optimal and Legacy were they not listed on the prior site, as I'm so new to the community and not up on where to search for things and whatnot.
I guess as long as the community stays strong and helps each other by 'keeping it out there' that there are other child themes and developers all is good. I will say though, I certainly like the idea of an authoritative single listing of all Genesis Themes.
Cheers!

Having provided support for Pretty Darn Cute, The Pixelista, Eight Crazy Designs, and Restored316 Designs, I can tell you that each of those developers/designers are still releasing Genesis child themes. Although I didn't provide support for Viva La Violette, I have spoken to Heather, and she's also working on new Genesis child themes.
Here are the sites for the developers/designers I just mentioned:

Viva La VioletteSeptember 25, 2013 at 11:03 pm #64245SummerMemberI don't know how "authoritative" I can get the new site to be, but I'm willing to give it a shot. And if a few folks here are willing to help out a bit, too... I'm all for suggestions, what you want to see, a good way to see it displayed, etc.
My first thought on it was more than just a list... have a directory of theme shops, maybe have featured themes, with reviews and maybe examples, too. I'm not really all that interested in creating a marketplace where folks can sell themes... I'd rather direct folks to the designers directly for that.
I've set up a placeholder site. I can't dive into the major setup until this weekend, but chime in whenever 🙂

Slice of SciFi | Writers, After DarkSeptember 25, 2013 at 11:29 pm #64249devParticipantWe have links to theme vendors on our site and send victims (oops, I mean clients!) to go to the page, look at the links, follow them and pick a theme that they want us to buy and use for their site.
We'd be happy with just a simple list of links to vendors and maybe a blurb on what kinds of themes they 'specialize' in... perhaps let the vendors write the blurb themselves.
It would be even better if there were thumbnails-links of/to the theme's homepage but that could get rather labor intensive and maybe a maintenance nightmare.
We'd send clients to a site that had all the vendors listed, so long it wasn't a competitor.
I still can't figure out why S.P. decided to close the community listing. Sounds like a case of a company run by 20/30-something tech-heads who don't have much business experience and who could use a few 50/60-somethings in management who know "facts of life" about sales and marketing.
Someone at S.P. should ask themselves why you find lots of competing auto dealers on the same street, lots of competing shoe stores and jewelry stores in a mall and lots of docs and dentists in a medical building? I've been running businesses for 35 years now. I got most of my biz-ed working for Ross Perot at EDS in the mid 1970s. The best lesson he taught me: "In a small Southern town one lawyer starves to death. But two make a fortune."

September 26, 2013 at 4:27 am #64267Susan NelsonParticipantGreat idea for that site, Summer! I'd love to be added to the list. I only have one theme available at the moment, but am working on a couple more to be released in the near future. http://ohhellodesigns.com/themes/
