    hi

    I am building a client site and for one of the PRIMARY NAV items i want to show a COLUMN STYLE DROP MENU rather than the normal Vertical Drop Menu.

    so if you hover over that SPECIFIC TOP NAV item it will show a PANEL with maybe 3 columns of SUB MENU items

    any idea how I can change the CSS to do this? I am using the Genesis Sample Child Theme.

    i know I can specify a CSS class for an individual NAV ITEM in the APPEARANCE>MENU area of WP-ADMIN -- but what additional CSS is required to allow that specific SUB MENU to appear in a 3 column panel?

    thanks

    Phil

    You can use logic as explained here - http://www.prowebdesign.ro/wordpress-sub-menu-items-split-in-2-columns-the-easy-way/

    For more control and easy implementation you can look at Uber menu or Mega menu premium plugins.

    Thanks Davinder

    i like the idea of adjusting the CSS rather than using a plugin -- and I got it working to display in 2 cols using that link you posted.

    but do you know how I could display in 3 columns instead?

    thanks

    I have not tried this, so not sure if this would work.

    You can try similar logic, that we use split widgets / columns / posts. For example, here is code to split into 3 horizontal widgets.

    .home-top .widget {
    	float: left;
    	padding: 0 2.8%;
    	width: 33.33333333333%;
    }

    .home-top .widget:nth-of-type(3n+1) {
    	clear: left;
    }

    Use above logic in place of odd and even.
