Child of a child theme?

When creating a customized theme based on a StudioPress child theme, is it recommended to create a child of that child theme to isolate customizations? Or would simply customizing a copy of the child them with comments suffice?

Best practices? Thoughts? Pros/Cons?

Put all the custom coding at the end of the file for both CSS and PHP.

You could put it in a plugin but then thats one more folder you have to manage so its easier to simply place it at the end of the file.

You shouldn't edit the existing CSS, rather copy the rules to the end of the file and mdofy them there.

What does that do for load time, especially if I'm doing extensive styling in my customizations?

I'm interested in that question as well, what about loading time as extensive customizations = a lot of duplicate CSS.... ? Should we simply create a "new" custom child theme using some of the code from an already made child theme ?
