I'm designing a website on the genesis theme which so far has been fantastic.

I want to avoid the post excerpts being registered as duplicate content. As duplicate content on any website negatively effects seo I want to be able to set my own post summary/excerpt that displays instead of a post content excerpt (i.e. "In this post we are discussing the negatives and positives of buying a car on finance. Did you know it can benefit your credit rating to have a car on credit? It's now easier than ever to finance your dream car. Click here to read more.")

The posts are listed by categories and I don't want to noindex the categories as they are quite important to the overall site.

Does anyone know how to do this? Is this possible?

Ah - nevermind it was a lot simpler than I thought.

    1. Open the post you want to change
    2. Open "screen options" at the top and tick "excerpt"
    3. You can now enter a manual post excerpt below the post
