Using latest Genesis Framework and Magazine Pro theme.

I want to change the author on a post. I see instructions for WordPress to go to the Edit Post page, select Screen Options top right to include Author, then go to the Author item and change it. On my Edit Post page, there is not a Screen Options, nor an Author edit area.

I've seen other instructions to enable this by modifying php code. Is that really necessary, and does that become an issue when updating the theme in the future?

Is there an easy way I'm missing?

    Thanks.

This actually has nothing to do with the Genesis Framework or your theme. This is how WordPress works. With Gutenberg, you have to switch the post to draft mode and then you'll be able to change the author in the Status & Visibility section on the right side of the edit screen.

    Maybe this will help: https://www.theblogmechanic.com/wordpress-tutorials/how-to-change-author-in-wordpress/
