The StudioPress code to change the [...] to a read more link for the Sample theme is not working. Does anyone else have a solution I could try? (I've google and tried about 5)

There's 3 different code snippets.

Which are you referring to and are you using the Genesis > Theme Settings > Content Archive settings to display Entry Excerpts or Entry Content?

I'm using Theme settings (customize) to display Entry Excerpts.

Wrong code. That relates to use of the Entry Content Setting, not excerpts.
