As of right now I have a customized static home page. I think I would like to make one blog category the front page.

I have a page titled "Parents/Youth Leaders" but now I want that as my front page (w/o 'category' in the url).

What advice can you give me?

    Thanks!

In settings > reading you can set your front page to any page you want. Did you try that?

I tried that, but unfortunately it didn't work. I'm using a custom static homepage via Genesis Extender.

I've tried disabling the custom homepage and doing what you've suggested and that hasn't worked either.

I'm sure there's a solution I just have to find it.

Thanks for the suggestion! If you have more I'dove to hear!

Did you try deactivating the Genesis Extender plugin to see if then your homepage pulls to your setting?

Yes I did, but it didn't help.
