    Previous person didn't use a child theme! How may I now use a child theme? Is it just the copying the css and functions.php?

    Test it out first using the Genesis Sample theme.

    You can copy any custom CSS to the end of the child themes style.css file and any custom functions to the end of the child themes functions file.
