I would like to replace the <header class="entry-header"> section so that it pulls info from a custom field. The title of each page is linked to <h1 class="entry-title">, but this lengthy title appears in the WP admin panel. So once I've SEO'd each Page Title - which is linked to H1 tags - the description shows up as something lengthy in backend, which is difficult for organizational purposed. While I've created a function to display Page slugs in backend, I still have to change the menu links to shorter name for each item. So I was hoping to find an easier solution for nicer display in backend. ANy ideas?

You can simply hook in a custom field using the entry header hook and remove the entry header markup.
