Change active menu item background color in News Pro

I know this is something silly, but can't get it to work.

On my menus, I want the hover to be a tan background and the active page to be a light blue. The hover is working but the active isn't. There is something a little different about the new CSS that I don't understand. (Although, in general I really like the new CSS format!)

This is the theme I'm working on:

And this is the theme I'm trying to "match" so to speak. The menus on this one are currently working the way I want.
