    Hi,

I am following a tutorial in Lynda.com. It is called Learning Genesis for WordPress. One of the sections discusses adding a custom logo. There is no option to alter the header in my version of the Genesis sample theme. When I try to customise the theme, everything hangs and I have to log in again. Should I uninstall and re-install WordPress to get around this? I am doing all this with localhost. Thanks.

Thanks, braddalton. I managed to find the header. I am working on the Genesis framework and not the Genesis sample. I will ditch the sample and make a child theme from the framework. I will look at the tutorial as well.

The tutorial you are trying to follow is using an older version of the sample theme, so their directions no longer apply.

Reinstalling WordPress will never fix issues like this. WordPress is php - all the code runs all the time. Settings are stored in the database, not theme files. Reinstalling only fixes php file changes.

I wouldn't work on the Genesis framework files directly.

    Always use a child theme.

The tutorial i linked to relates to modifying the header image size in the new version of the Genesis Sample child theme. https://github.com/copyblogger/genesis-sample. This is the free default theme for Genesis.

Hi Andrea and Braddalton. Thanks for your advice. I did reinstall WordPress. I thought there might be conflicting plugins. I know the Lynda tutorial is out of date. That is not the problem. I am using the Genesis Sample Theme. Whenever I try to customise it, it hangs. I have to close the tab and restart in another one. I am running WordPress under localhost. Brad, I also tried the tutorial. If I remember, it adds a new header sub-menu. When I click on that it takes me to the customise area, which then crashes. Thanks again.

Make sure your localhost environment is using up to date components. Crashes like you are experiencing are often caused by an outdated PHP version.

Hi Victor. The problem is caused by the Dashlane plugin that I have installed in my Chrome and Firefox browsers. The problem disappears when I remove the plugin. It's frustrating as the plugin manages my passwords. Thanks for your help.
