I'm getting this after an update on wordpress.

    Notice: add_custom_background is deprecated since version 3.4.0! Use add_theme_support( 'custom-background', $args ) instead. in /home/content/55/14016855/html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 3832

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/content/55/14016855/html/wp-includes/functions.php:3832) in /home/content/55/14016855/html/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 1210

I checked and I have the most recent version of the balance theme which is 2012. Is there a fix for this out there? I did change it in the plugins to add_theme_support so I could get into the backend. Or should I update to a different theme that's a bit newer. I also checked and there was no plugin conflict.

What makes you think the theme is at fault? None of the errors you mentioned point to the theme. I searched the theme's source code and the term add_custom_background does not show up anywhere in the Balance theme.

I think I found the issue... My functions.php is different than balance. Maybe I had an old version on my desktop. Not sure since this is an old site for 2013. I'll play with it.
