    How can I get the background image to load before the page is loaded?

    The first thing I would do is make the image file smaller. It is around 1.4 meg in size which is a major part of the wait time. It is a .png file so you would do better to create a web .jpg where you can get image compression. If you crop the top a bit more you can save on image size as well. You can easily get the image down to 140kb on high quality.
