    Hi,

Looking for some help resolving some critical issues (according to Google PageSpeed) with the AuthorPro theme. Does anyone know how to "Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content"?

Currently, Google PageSpeed has currently found issues with the following files:

    http://www.zoebuckman.com/wp-includes/js/jquery/jquery.js?ver=1.11.2
    http://www.zoebuckman.com/wp-includes/js/jquery/jquery-migrate.min.js?ver=1.2.1
    http://www.zoebuckman.com/wp-content/plugins/simple-follow-me-social-buttons-widget/assets/js/front-widget.js?ver=3.3.1
    http://www.zoebuckman.com/wp-content/themes/author-pro/js/global.js?ver=1.0.0

    Hi,

this is not really a theme issue, because the theme cannot know what scripts and css files you are going to use.

The easiest way to deal with this is to install a caching plugin that also minifies, combines, defers or asynchronically loads the scripts and css.

https://wordpress.org/plugins/w3-total-cache/ is a free plugin that needs quite a bit of setting up:

wp-rocket.me is a paid plugin but a lot easier to use.

Please be aware that sometimes changes to the way scripts and css are loaded can break the functionality or layout of your website.
In this case you will have to exclude the specific script or css from the optimization and ignore the complaints of pagespeed insights.

I'd echo the comments above. Optimising for page speed is always a compromise and you can end up breaking your site on some browsers just for the sake of gaining an extra point or two.
