ParticipantI am currently in the complex process of moving an entire existing website that has been powered by another CMS to WP. As for my other WP websites, I am using Genesis Framework. For this specific project, I am using News Pro Theme. And Redirection for redirecting from old to new URLs.
It is taking much time, but everything is progressing well. There is one section of the current website (the section for which the URL is provided below, currently non-WP) that I do not yet know how to deal with - I will take care of that section at the end. It is a directory of links, containing several hundreds links with short comments, no thumbnails. It is using a discontinued script, YALD (Yet Another Link Directory), that was excellent. I have been able to do a SQL export of the YALD-powered directory-
I have found two nice plugins, but they do not allow for subcategories. Since the current directory has categories, sub-categories and sub-sub-categories, they couldn't do the job. Or I would need to restructure the entire content, which is not impossible, but would take additional time. I do not rule out that option, but I want first to see if there is another solution. If it would be possible to integrate the directory within the main domain, this would be optimal.
Another solution would be to have a specific subdomain with its separate WP install specifically for that directory of links, and then to use a WP theme meant for directories. I am open to that solution, but then I would have two questions:
1) Is there any Genesis-powered theme, directory-oriented theme that would be a good solution for that kind of directory? (I stress that this is purely a directory of links, not a local directory of places.)
2) Would it be possible to design such a theme in a way that would look similar to the other sections of the website which are using News Pro Theme? If somebody has found solutions for solving similar issues, thank you for sharing!

ParticipantThank you very much, Susan. I am now exploring that, and maybe one just needs to admit that, while WP is a wonderful CMS, it has also some limitations. I could probably reach the trick by creating categories looking like subcategories, although they would actually be "flat" categories, all at the same level, e.g. having titles such as:
Category > Subcategroy
Category > Subcategroy > Sub-subcategoryIt remains to be seen how the import would work.
Thank you also for the URL of Genesis Slack Group.
