    Can't post url...building site locally

I want to link to another site from 1 of my 6 posts on the home middle section. In other words, when a user clicks on [Read me], I want them to go directly to the linked website. The "insert/edit link" feature on the Edit Post page, allows me to enter the URL I want but from my site it takes me to the Post with the clickable URL instead of directly to the other site. (I hope I have explained this well enough.)

    Any ideas of a work-a-round?

How are the posts being generated? Using the Genesis featured posts widget?

Thanks Brad for responding so quickly!

Yes, the posts are generated using the Genesis featured posts widget. And, not that it matters, but it's the home bottom section.

I assume you want to link the read more from 1 entry to an external link.

There's no filter in the widget so to modify it you'll need to copy over the code from Genesis to your child theme. Example

    Or

Find an extended version of the widget which includes a filter to modify the read more link in your child themes functions file.

I'm afraid that doing those suggestions takes me out of my depth here, haha!

Will it matter if I change my posts over to pages, or will pages require the same modifications you suggest?

Same as they would use the featured pages widget.
