ok, I was able to follow this tutorial to add a new widget area just below the header / navigation menu.

Genesis Framework widget areas (how to add them)

Now, what do I tweak to add a new widget area to the bottom of pages?

    The hook position

Please copy the code from the view raw link and paste it at the end of your child themes functions.php file using a text editor like Notepad++

@brad you are a magician, it works perfectly. I used it in conjunction with Conditional Widgets to do what I needed so thank you.

btw, can you tel me what this mans in Genesis? is_active_sidebar I am curious as I am adding content below the content of the page and not in the sidebar.

And is this the proper condition for Genesis? is_active_sidebar('after-pages')

If the widget area is populated ( is_active_sidebar) then it executes the PHP code and displays the widget.
