I would like to add a title above the post excerpts on the homepage of Education Pro theme, to basically be a headline for that section. How would I do this? Thanks!

You mean your site title or a custom title? In which position exactly? Can you take a screnshot and point an arrow to the location.

Actually, I think I just want to replace the posts area with a widget area. Think that might be easier, then I could just do the featured post widget. Can someone help with that instead?

Thanks Brad, I'm not seeing on that link how to replace the posts with a new widget area, just how to add a widget area. Maybe if I was more knowledgeable I could figure it out from that...

How are the posts generated? If its using the featured posts widget then you can remove that widget. Please see the theme setup guide for clarification.

They are generated automatically as latest posts. Not in a widget.
