    Hi!

    Is there an easy way to add reading time (and possibly a bar at the top that shows progress) without a plugin. There are a lot of tutorials around the web but Genesis and Essence Pro seem to resist to changes proposed in those tutorials. I have tried to add the recommended code into funcitons.php but and smack all of the needed lines where hinted but got nothing to work. Any hints?

    Hi!

    I have tried such tutorials. They don't work.
    For instance this one:
    https://medium.com/@nadeem4uwebtech/how-to-add-reading-time-in-wordpress-without-using-plugin-d2e8af7b1239

    I put the functions code at the end but don't know where to put the
    <?php echo reading_time(); ?> line.

    I have tried to insert it in the functions.php where the rest of the post info is but ended out with php error.

    That is why I'm asking here. I can google such tutorials but when it comes to Genesis which ha sits own quirks and features they don't work out of the box. At least I don't know how to make them work.

    @Krzysztof I wrote a tutorial on how to use the code from Medium with modification. You'll see I did a separate section for Essence Pro.

    Let me know how that works for you.
