    Hello all,

I'm using the balance theme and am trying to create a category page that is different than the home page. Thus, something like this wouldn't work: http://www.briangardner.com/tutorials/blog-page-single-category/

Anyone have some suggestions? I'm not that skilled in coding, but I've tried everything I found online and nothing has enabled me to create a category page that shows feature images only (according to each category, and I have several).

I would preferably like 3 pics across.

    Any help?!?!!

I just published a post about how to create portfolio style category archive pages.

It requires a lot of code editing and the question has been asked many times without an easy answer which is why i wrote the post.

Took me 5 hours to work out the solution however it works perfectly.

Otherwise, you will need to write custom code.

Update: You're in luck because the Balance theme uses the same method for the portfolio that the Crystal child theme uses meaning you can use the same process in my tutorial to create portfolio style category archives.

    Actually, I think I found it: http://wpsites.net/web-design/create-multiple-portfolio-style-category-archive-pages-in-crystal-theme/

Would I just replace the name of your theme with balance -- is it that simple?

Sorry, but what does" Just published a post using the Balance theme port arcs." mean?

    I'm new to all this.

    Thanks!

It worked! Man, you're amazing. Thank you so much for doing all that work.

    I can't thank you enough!

So, I created the first one no problem.

However, for the second one, I can't get it to show anything.

I did a find a replace for "catarc" and change it to something else.

Repeated the steps, setup the widget however the page is blank.

    Any suggestions??

    Hello braddalton,

I was wondering if all this would work if I wanted to switch to html5?

    Thanks!

    Hi

Yeah it will because i've just done this locally on a new child theme i'm building plus used it on my live site which has been running HTML 5 for about 2-3 months.

Just make sure you convert the selectors in the CSS code manually or using an online generator.

    That's great!

I'll have to give it a go and test it out---can you recommend a good online generator?

I've tried: http://cobaltapps.com/genesis-xhtml-to-html5-css-converter/ but it doesn't do anything when I copy my CSS in.
