Possible Solution from Easy Digital Downloads:

Place this in your child theme’s functions.php or custom plugin:

https://gist.githubusercontent.com/sumobi/7077390/raw/gistfile1.php

Fingers crossed this functions.php snippet is adaptable to other 3rd party CPTs

What if a plugin is registering a custom post type? Support can be added after the custom post type has been registered with add_post_type_support().
